EBCRP has partnered with Affordable Housing Associates (AHA) to rehabilitate a vacant single-room occupancy hotel into a sustainable permanent home for Project Pride. Demolition of this blighted property began in February and will be completed by the end of May. Construction of the new facility, which intends to restore the property to it's original historical facade, will be complete by Summer of 2012.

Berkeley Alcohol and Substance Abuse Providers (BASAP) is a group of local community organizations and City programs. They are hosting their 5th biennial conference and EBCRP staff are among the presenters. Registration is still open and CEU's are available. Traveling around the agency this week, I was struck by how all of the departments were gearing up for the Fall holidays. A program manager in our Day Treatment program had sent out an email arranging donations for warm clothing and holiday gift basket items. Last Friday, EBCRP took over the lanes at Albany Bowl. It was so refreshing to see the mingling between staff and those we are so fortunate to serve. The women from Project Pride were boogieing down to the disco music, sometimes with their babies attached in a sling! The smiles on the faces were so nice to see. Do we dare mention the dancing that went on between senior FACT staff and a Project Pride supervisor? Oh my. Total comedy.

EBCRP will be attending the upcoming Alameda County resource guide event. As a community based organization who serves low income families and individuals, we hope to see other agencies who we may refer clients to. This is event will be held at the San Leandro Marina Community Center at 15301 Wicks Blvd., the 22nd of October from 8:30am-12noon.
