East Bay Parks Collaboration
Our moms and children in Project Pride are looking forward to a fun couple of months with the kind folks at East Bay Parks. Since the collaboration started in 2016, we’ve had many women tell us they have never “enjoyed” the outdoors before now because they either didn’t have an opportunity, couldn’t afford to travel to parks, or were afraid of wildlife. East Bay Parks Naturalists, who reached out to Project Pride in an effort to expose urban families to the benefits of nature, have managed to quell the fear that existed and opened up a whole new world of appreciation for animals, flowers, and open space. The variety of programs offered provide exposure to the Pacific Ocean, East Bay hills, and even local rivers and streams. In the words of a 33 year old Oakland native, “I’ve lived here all my life and never knew there were giant redwoods basically in my backyard. I had never been on a boat, let alone on the ocean. And now I have done that, but what’s so cool is I’ve done it with my 4 year old son. We’ve created memories together”.
