Substance Use Recovery
EBCRP started in 1989 in response to the cocaine crisis in Oakland. Since then, our programs have evolved and now cover street drugs, alcohol, tobacco and prescription medication abuse. Our trained staff provide help to individuals and families to try and repair the damage that addiction can inflict.
While abstinence may be a goal for many, our care follows more of a harm reduction model and unless prohibited by outside agencies (i.e. courts), we do not end treatment because of relapses.
We do hope and expect that folks will not bring drugs or alcohol to the program, and discourage participation if someone is too high.
Who pays for the services?
Many of our clients receive care completely free of charge because of grants we are able to secure from Federal, State and County agencies. We are Medi-Cal and Medi-Care certified and can bill out for services that way too.
What about Co-Occurring Disorders?
Co-occurring disorders, or dual disorders are where someone has substance use and mental health issues that can exacerbate each other. This is super common. Luckily, EBCRP has served folks with co-occurring issues since the beginning and is recognized as a leader in Alameda County for care. All of our staff are trained in the best treatment protocols for this population and we have a long standing history of success.

"At this time last year, I was facing an amputation at Highland Hospital because of my drug use. I remembered this lady, Lea, from EBCRP who told me her door was always open.
